CARBON FOOTPRINT & SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

At STEFFCA, we take our social responsibility and carbon footprint seriously. We want to focus on the climate, the environment, and people while running a responsible and financially sound company.

As one of Denmark’s foremost suppliers of gaskets and sealing solutions, we are responsible for ensuring that our business contributes to a more sustainable world.

We see it as our social responsibility to ensure that our gaskets are manufactured from the best materials and to precise specifications to minimize the risk of leaks, which could have severe consequences for the climate, the environment, and people.

We work continuously and systematically to implement impactful initiatives. In 2023 we updated our sustainability strategy, setting the following areas as our priorities: product responsibility, sustainable operation, and creating a good working environment.

AREAS OF OPERATION
Our product range includes gaskets and seals, technical insulation solutions, and high-quality acid leak detection. Product responsibility focuses on three areas:

SUPPLIER MANAGEMENT
We will actively work with our suppliers to ensure responsible production and to make sure that they adhere to ethical standards. We are in the process of implementing a Supplier Code of Conduct and procedures for risk assessment.

SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS
Today, we use as much of our materials as we can. We emphasize replacing our machines with new, high-tech ones for better energy and resource utilization.

We want to get better at recycling our materials so they can be reused and re-purposed.

To be part of the movement toward sustainability, our packaging will be FSC certified.

PRODUCT SAFETY
Product safety is one of the foundation stones of our business. This is a basic requirement for our customers. We are ISO 9001:2015 certified and approved to handle materials that meet foodstuffs.

EXPANDING OUR FOCUS
As a production business, we use energy in our operation. Our primary focus has been on reducing our energy consumption through a range of initiatives. We are expanding our focus to include new areas that can help us minimize our negative impact on natural resources and the climate.

WASTE
We have implemented a new waste management system in accordance with the Waste Executive Order. A renewed emphasis is on correctly sorting waste to increase our recycling rate.

ENERGY
We already use electric trucks in our business, and we have installed six electric vehicle chargers in our car park for use by staff and customers. We have converted our lights to LED lights and installed sensors to minimize electricity consumption.

We emphasize replacing our machines with new, high-tech ones for better energy and resource utilization.

TRANSPORT
We expect to replace our six company cars with electric cars. At the moment, we have four hybrid cars.

CLIMATE
We have an overview of our direct and indirect impact on the climate. We have calculated our direct CO2 emissions (Scope 1) and our indirect CO2 emissions (Scope 2).

We are also aware of our Scope 3 emissions through our supply and customer chains.

Our production sites are primarily heated by the excess heat generated by our machinery, which is then channelled into other areas to provide heating.

GOOD WORKING ENVIRONMENT
We want to offer a good working environment to attract and retain qualified staff. It is important to us that all our colleagues thrive, develop, and are supported to a healthier lifestyle.

We also know that it is important to keep colleagues informed about our sustainability initiatives; this will help to create a good working environment. Creating a good working environment focuses on three areas:

JOB SECURITY AND WELL-BEING
We are focused on job security and staff well-being. We want our colleagues to feel safe at work, and we want to help each other to ensure that we have a safe and healthy work environment.

At STEFFCA, we encourage all our employees to join a weekly walk, and fruit and vegetables are available to all staff every day.

All staff are enrolled in a health insurance scheme. This ensures that all our employees have the best outcomes should they need medical treatment. All staff members are also offered a flu vaccination as this illness can be very serious for some.

We also offer all our employees a canteen scheme to ensure everyone can access a healthy and varied diet.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT
We involve all staff in the pursuit of a good working environment. Initiatives include a staff workshop where we agreed on various focus areas, such as health.

We strive to be an inclusive workplace by employing people who may otherwise have difficulty finding a job. Because we see it as our social responsibility to help the individual develop and move forward, we have assigned a mentor to support these colleagues. We also offer protected employment and flexible working to all our employees if they need to reduce their hours due to illness or reduced capacity. We want to hold on to our employees for as long as possible.

We focus on adequately preparing new employees for our workplace. We have a staff handbook, and we are dedicated to furthering our colleagues’ careers through relevant education and training.

GOOD MANAGEMENT

We support initiatives in the local community.

Through the Red Cross, we have donated to Ukrainians fleeing the war.

We have also donated to Danmarks Indsamlingen (a country-wide fundraising event) to contribute to a better future for the world’s children.

Very few go through life without being touched by cancer, either as a patient or a relative. Because 1 in 3 will get cancer before they turn 75. That’s a lot, so we’ve donated to Knæk Cancer.

We are a sponsor of Odense handball’s women’s league team.

We also have an Internet Code of Conduct to help us fight corruption.

Our priorities particularly support three of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals:

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL 8: DECENT WORK AND ECONOMIC GROWTH
This goal focuses on economic growth through increased productivity and technological advances, and on achieving full and productive employment and decent work, for all women and men.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL 12: RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION
This goal focuses on efficiently managing our shared natural resources, how we dispose of toxic waste and pollutants, and encouraging industries, businesses, and consumers to recycle and reduce their waste.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL 13: CLIMATE ACTION
This goal focuses on swift action to combat climate change and its consequences by limiting the increase of the global average temperature to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels and strengthening resilience and climate adaptation in vulnerable regions.
